Agriculture has the highest generation of jobs in the last 10 years
Brazilian agriculture created 61,637 job openings last year, according to data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed People (Caged), released by the Labor Department. This is the best result since 2011, when the sector's job market expanded by 85,585 jobs.
Among the activities that most created jobs with a formal contract in 2020, soy topped the ranking, with 13,396 jobs. Also noteworthy is coffee (6,284 new posts). In livestock, raising cattle (+11,598) and poultry (+5,993) were the activities that most contributed to the job market.
Also according to the data, 3 out of 4 jobs created in the agricultural sector are in the Southeast region, especially in São Paulo, which grew by 46,475 jobs in 2020.
Resilient farming amid the crisis
The Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA) analyzed data from Caged and points out that the good results reveal the dynamism of the sector in 2020. “Despite the high production costs, it has shown resilience in the face of the crisis”, says the entity .
In macro terms, the sector as a whole showed an outstanding performance in 2020: a record US$ 100.8 billion in exports of agribusiness products, growth of 18.2% in the gross value of production, according to the CNA, and an increase of 16 .8% of agribusiness GDP in the first 10 months of the year, according to CNA and Cepea.
